Wildlife on the Rocks will be the theme for the week of January 14 - 20 :

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a WILD animal that is obviously standing, laying, sitting or, or jumping between large, exposed rocks – no pets/domestic/captive/zoo animals, and no people, man-made objects, gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)

State, Provincial and National Parks IN WINTER will be the theme for the week of January 21 - 27:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a beautiful, winter landscape with plenty of snow and/or ice which is captured in a state, provincial or national park [park name must be identified by name in title or description] – no small/local parks, and no people, man-made objects, gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas, and no pets/domestic/captive/zoo animals allowed)

Patterns Found in Rocks will be the theme for the week of January 28 – February 3:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a rock or rocks which have interesting veins, grains, or other patterns display in them – no gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas, and no pets/domestic/captive animals, people, man-made objects, allowed)

Big and Small will be the theme for the week of February 4 - 10:


(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a pair or group of WILD animals, at least one of which is much larger than at least one of which that is much smaller than the other(s). It can be two different species in the same shot, or adults with babies of the same species, as long as there is a major size difference between them – no pets/domestic/captive/zoo animals, and no people, man-made objects, gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)

By a mere margin of one vote, Caves and Caverns will be the theme for the week of February 11 - 17:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a scene from INSIDE a natural cave or cavern – commercialized caverns are okay as long as there are no people, pets/domestic/captive animals, man-made objects, gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas involved in the image)

Steamy Scenes will be the theme for the week of February 18 - 24:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a water source which is producing steam because the water temperature is warmer than the air temperature, such as at a natural hot spring, a winter lake that hasn’t frozen yet, a warm-water river in Yellowstone, etc. – no pets/domestic/captive animals, people, man-made objects, gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)

Small Birds will be the theme for the week of February 25 – March 2:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is some kind of WILD bird, which is no larger than a Robin, Thrush, Towhee or Catbird, for example [Jays, Crows and anything larger are too big for this theme!] – no pets/domestic/captive/zoo animals, and no people, man-made objects, gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)

Blue or Purple Wildflowers will be the theme for the week March 3 -:9

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a WILD flower which is blue and/or purple in color. The flower MUST BE IDENTIFIED AS A WILDFLOWER in either title or description to be acceptable – no garden flowers, gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas, and no pets/domestic/captive animals, people, man-made objects, allowed)

Eagles will be the theme for the week March 10 - 16:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is some kind of WILD eagle such as a Bald Eagle, Harpy Eagle, Sea Eagle, Golden Eagle, etc. – no pets/domestic/captive/zoo animals, and no people, man-made objects, gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)

Yellow and Black will be the theme for the week March 17 - 23:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is some kind of WILD plant or animal which prominently displays both the colors Yellow and Black, such as a butterfly, beetle, bird, etc. - no pets/domestic/captive animals, people, man-made objects of any kind of gardens, yards, zoos, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)

"Multiples" will be the theme for the week March 24 - 30:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a group of at least TEN of your subjects, whether it be a flock of birds, a herd of animals, an interesting stand of trees, a patch of identified WILD flowers, etc. - no pets/domestic/captive animals, people, man-made objects of any kind of gardens, yards, zoos, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)

"Splashes" will be the theme for the week March 31 – April 6:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is some kind of splash, such as a wave against rocks, wildlife splashing water in a lake, etc. - no pets/domestic/captive animals, people, man-made objects of any kind of gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)

"Looks Like Something Else" will be the theme for the week April 7 - 13:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is something that looks like something else, for example a knot in tree bark that looks like a face, or a rock shaped like a heart, etc. - no pets/domestic/captive animals, people, man-made objects of any kind of gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)

"Is This Planet Earth??" will be the theme for the week April 14 - 20:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a landscape which depicts an odd or bizarre natural scene that makes you wonder if it was taken on planet earth - no pets/domestic/captive animals, people, man-made objects of any kind of gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)

Long-Legged Waders in Water will be the theme for the week of 21 - 27 April:

(any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a WILD long-legged wading bird such as a heron, egret, stork, crane, flamingo, stilt, etc. which is STANDING IN or WALKING THROUGH water– no pets/domestic/captive animals, people, man-made objects, gardens, yards, marinas, zoos, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)

Here are the three candidates for the week April 28 – May 4:


-- Natural Bridges and Arches (any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a landscape highlighting a natural bridge or arch caused be erosion - no pets/domestic/captive animals, people, man-made objects of any kind, and no gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)


-- Wildlife in Black and White (any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a WILD animal that is presented in a monochrome, BLACK AND WHITE image – no pets/domestic/captive/zoo animals, and no people, man-made objects, gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)


-- Prairies or Grasslands (any scene captured within a natural environment where the subject is a landscape which shows an obvious prairie, plains or grasslands scene – no pets/domestic/captive animals, people, man-made objects, gardens, yards, marinas, neighborhoods or built-up areas allowed)
